Hyper Power Catamaran

Why is EkoKat such a
Game-Changer ?

Like our Unique Features section, there are so many reasons Ekokat is changing the way people think about power catamarans, and even yachts in general. In particular the use of prime living space with layouts that help to prevent sea sickness, and innovatively provide much larger accommodation, the size usually found on 100-120ft superyachts.

It does not end there though, and because there are so many game-changing things to talk about with Ekokat we have created an entire section on it

Affordable luxury power catamaran, without compromise

Entrepreneurial game changers Ekokat have brought luxury power catamarans down to monohull price levels. With very clever use of space, removing the need for hull bedroom fits outs entirely, and a highly efficient boat production facility, we literally half the cost of our closest competitor.

Game Changer

High Specification Yachts

Ekokat is not a yacht brand that promotes a lead in price and then you find you need to spend another 30% just to have a moderately specced boat. We do have options but you will find our lead in price is perfectly acceptable.

Game Changer

Quality build and parts

Ekokat uses state of the art equipment and parts such as Italian Xenta control systems, Raymarine navigation, Besenzoni helm seats, Ultra, the world’s best anchor and Miele or Siemens galley equipment.

You can be sure of no compromise with our boat parts. The Ekokat Project Director at our factory facility, built Bering Yachts for 3 years and has decades of experience building premium international yachts.

Privacy and long stays aboard

Ekokat has been conceived particularly for our owners to enjoy long stays on board with family and friends.

As any 100ft boat owner will know the novelty of taking family and friends out to sea can start to crack at the edges after a few days and nights depending on how many and the nature of the guests relationship to each other, when it comes to starting to feel like you are ‘on top of each other’.

Human beings are used to living on land! often in spacious houses with gardens, and short of being on a large superyacht, there is a limit to the space and privacy generally afforded on a boat.

EkoKat have thought long and hard about this, and really wanted to create solution where 2 or 3 families or couples could happily spend 1, 2 or even 3 weeks on board and not ‘get into each others hair’!

By nature of no side deck’s we automatically create private spaces with our ‘Lounge of the Bow’, cockpit area and its mezzanine sunpad, and the flybridge.

With this in mind and depending on the layout chosen, we have indeed created a truly unique situation and effectively carved out 3 private spaces, enabling such 3 couples/families to relax on their own after a the 1st few days to enjoy quality time together and then congregate and socialise at times to suit everyone. EkoKat really is the perfect boat for this.

Imagine for example the full master cabin layout. This effectively gives the occupants the entire front half of the yacht for themselves. A giant 8m or 10m wide beam bedroom, 2 descending huge bathrooms  and access directly out onto the completely self-contained Lounge on the Bow. This effective outside terrace lounge is fully equipped to cook and wine and done. bathroom access is inside the master cabin. A couple of family could spend all day in this combined area of 42sqm 450sqft for the 58S and 55sqm 600sqft for the 58W.

Put this into perspective.

This forward section of the 58S yacht is the same size as the average studio apartment in New York, and the 58W the same size as the average 1 bedroom apartment in New York.  It can comfortably be enjoyed by a couple or family on multi day/week yachting adventure while 1 or 2 other couples/families enjoy the other 2 key areas of the boat.

A Couple/family 2 for example enjoy the main area of the rear section of the apartment (without the portside small bedroom and portside bathroom), main deck galley kitchen, and the entire cockpit to themselves, and in the case of the 58S equivalent to a 2 bedroomed New York apartment at 70sqm 750sqt feet. With the 58W this is almost 100sqm and over 1000sqt of living space.

A 3rd couple could join the group using the portside small double room with the immediately adjacent descending bathroom, along with entire flybridge equipped with galley giving them over 60sqm 650sqft of living space for the 58S and almost 90sqm 960 sqft for the 58W.

All 3 couples/families have their own bathroom and kitchen facilities, totally self-contained. No other yacht under 100ft can claim such a long stay comfort, space and privacy solution.

Time to convert

For monohull owners that feel they have reached the end of the line at around 60ft, and to go to the next level and enjoy significantly more space in areas of the boat that matter to them, it seems the only option is a crewed boat with significantly increased running costs. EkoKat rolls in with more of a lion’s roar than a pussycat meow!

With a flybridge and salon size one would expect from a 100/120ft monohull superyacht, incredibly unique features, creative innovation and build quality, the agility and maneuverability of a boat easily still within your driving capabilities, and not to mention the low running costs, fuel consumption and great looks, The Ekokat Voyager 58S and W are the saviors. It is time to Convert. Power Catamarans these days are not simply sailing cats with the masts removed! They are the ultimate boat experience, and in EkoKat’s case a giant luxury floating apartment…with guaranteed and uninterrupted panoramic sea views!

Monohull Performance

Ekokat does not only target the power catamaran audience. We compete justifiably with monohull yachts, both flybridge and open/targa cruisers, as is noted in Time to Convert

As well as offering a far larger space yacht and all the features of a monohull and more, performance is also paramount as the monohull owner who is used to cruising speeds of 15-20 knots at least and a top speed of at least 25/27 knots. Whilst they may often be used to speeds even faster, by the most common speeds used will be cruise 15-21 and 20-27 knots when getting from A to B quicker is desired and to avoid burning a hole in the wallet with excessive fuel bills when powering along at 30+ knots.

Most heavy-weight power catamarans on the market that compete with Ekokat and in the 60-70ft range, rarely see cruise and top speeds exceeding 11/17 knots.

It was important therefore for EkoKat if it is to convert the age-old monohull user, over to the world of an EkoKat power catamaran, that we can offer such monohull performance. And indeed we do. Our engine options provide a range of 15/20 cruise/top speed, to 21/27 for both the 58S and 58W.

Fuel consumption and range too are key with an EkoKat. For customers who wish to conserve fuel we can deliver a yacht that can take a slow cruise and achieve less than 30 litres per hour (combined engines). We can also deliver a combined fuel consumption range of 125 litres per hour running at less than 1700rpm and 15/16 knot cruising, or around 175-190 litres per hour at a comfortable 20 knots.

EkoKat's evolution and Schrödinger's Cat

The story behind the world’s 1st dual usage main deck salon

Ekokat evolved originally from the CEO stuck in a dilemma. 30 years of boating, 10 of them with 50/60ft monohulls, and the desperate desire for a bigger boat without the need for crew. retaining the ability to slip into small bays, cala’s and tight anchorages close up to the beach and being able to just hop aboard and go out for the day with his wife without it all being a palava, seemed to mean the range of 80-120ft boats on his wish list just wasn’t going to work.

The dilemma included a wife that (understandably) would not look at a boat with a galley ‘downstairs’ or without immediate access to fresh air and the outside, as motion sickness would roll in and prevent a pleasurable day for her, and so many ruined 3-7 day family and friend outings as somebody inevitably starts suffering from seas sickness, drove the quest to find a boat where ‘ALL’ guests sleeps and stay high-up on the main deck or above levels.

‘I was constantly being told by boat brands, “sorry that’s impossible” EkoKats CEO says, “where else are people going to sleep, in the salon?”, as well as “you will need a 100-150ft+ boat for that privilege, and even those tend to only have the master cabin upstairs”. “You’ll need a mega Yacht”. Seeing the Four Seasons Explorer Catamaran at 128ft had accomplished it, the CEO observed, all their bedrooms are at main deck level with direct over-the-top sea views, to the horizon. Albeit they have a 3rd extra deck for lounging.

Aware of his children’s passion for video gaming and things only rendering into view when you look at them, and in particular as a keen amateur science fanatic, the Schrödinger’s Cat paradox ‘superposition’ where things can be in two states until you look at them, brought him a light bulb moment! (coincidental that it relates to a ‘cat’ ).

Why can’t the main deck salon be ‘both’ a huge open plan Penthouse apartment by day, and a luxury 3 or 4 bedroom presidential suite at night? Seemingly silly and impossible, but not if you are a visionary, and have had past experience developing and building luxury villa properties with multi-functional rooms. ‘We will simply create a series of half-height walls with the top half being mirrored to create the illusion of space and even hide the fact they are there at all. As well as mirrors on a boat reflect the ocean scene outside, giving the impression they are simply panoramic windows in the same size huge space, this enables the penthouse apartment by day to transform into a Presidential set of guest bedrooms at night.

The only thing left were the beds and where do they hide during the day? Back to Schrödinger’s Cat and a call to sofa bed market leaders ‘Back To Sleep’. A multi-million dollar yacht and any discerning sailor and his party demands the highest level of comfort. Sleep in general and a dream-encouraged sleep is now scientifically known to be the single most important thing to a human being. So rest assured this is top on the priority list for Ekokat. A sofa bed may not sound like the perfect bed, but when they are custom-made by specialists and with bespoke designs specifically for EkoKat, they very much are.

Memory foam topped and pocket sprung Ekokat offers the equivalent of a 5 star hotel bed experience, and in fact far greater than traditional boat brands will typically offer. So don’t be put off with the idea of sofa beds! In our case they are superior and come with Egyptian cotton bedding.

The name of the 1st Ekokat may indeed be ‘Schroders Cat’ the CEO exclaims!

Hull benefits

The decision to not put guest bedrooms down in the hulls of the boat was primarily and originally to help prevent dreaded motion and sea sickness, putting a rapid end to the day for everyone on board one way or another. In addition of course there is a limit to the size of a bedroom in a catamaran hull. Ekokat offers simply palatial-sized bedrooms in night mode, all set 3 metres above the waterline with panoramic views to the horizon through huge windows. (See our cross-section to realise how other catamaran brands rob the salon above of floor space by increasing the headroom down below. in bedrooms. This is why you see the sofas and furniture starting 1m in from the walls. Add this 1m each side to the 1m allowed for side decks outside, and you soon find a reduction in the usable beam floor space of a power catamaran salon of a total of 4 metres!)

With the extra space available in Ekokat hulls brought through having no bedrooms, there are a myriad of additional downstream benefits

*Cost saving in excess of usd1million to the price of the yacht.

*Superyacht sized bathrooms. There is nothing worse than squeezing into a shower cubicle or edging yourself in to use the fundamental facilities! Ekokat walk-in rain showers measure 1.7×1.1m and with our extra-sized water maker and water tanks (also facilitated with more space available in the hulls) finally you can shower away until your heart is content in comfort. Adequate dressing room space for the ladies doesn’t go amiss either! *Space to more than double solar battery storage, enabling Ekokat to boast the largest solar array of any boat under 100ft and facilitate over 100kwh of battery storage… Who wants or needs dreaded generators pounding away in the morning to re-charge?

*Oversized crew rooms. For those that desire crew, we have assigned the entire front section of both hulls and fitted and furnished our crew rooms at guest standard to allow them to also double as single guest rooms, day rooms/changing rooms or even kids private dens!

Owner Operated Superyacht

As the story behind EkoKat and our ‘time to convert’ section explains, the Voyager 58 is also designed for those looking for a yacht with huge 100ft+ monohull spaces that they can comfortably operate themselves without crew.

Of course EkoKat is equally a crewed yacht with 2 crew cabins, but it is worth noting at just 58ft in length, it is perfectly possible for a capable owner plus one, to operate this vessel.

As well as its manageable length, the systems on board at the dual helm stations equipped with Xenta all-speed, cruise-function, joystick make life extremely easy. See our Starship Hem Station for more details.
